The westbound carriageway of the A14 was blocked after a four-car collision.

Broken down lorry causes delays
Drivers were warned to expect delays as a broken down lorry caused traffic tailbacks on the A14 westbound at Fen Ditton today (Tues).

Ulster Says "Yes"

The annual survey on the future of Northern Ireland shows how Republicanism is another major casualty of the credit crunch:

73% wanted to remain part of the United Kingdom with either direct rule or a devolved government;
16% to reunify with the rest of Ireland;
6% don't know what they want;
3% favoured an independent state; and
3% put forward other ideas which made the mind boggle.

Next year, I want more detail about that final three percent.

Multiple Wives on the State… And Husbands?

I did not know that the benefits system recognised polygamous marriage. Why is polygamy supported by the taxpayer and is this discrimination against polyandry? Who’s going to the European Court of Human Rights to campaign for multiple husbands?

A14 Lib Dem Hypocrisy

The County's Lib Dems have demanded action on the A14, noting the demise of the plan to upgrade this major road. Of course, they have been rather quiet about their role in opposing the major upgrade in the first place. They also seem to have forgotten that at the start of the process the county councillors were told that they could either have the Guided Bus and an upgrade or no upgrade at all; most councillors were not keen on the bus but took it as a necessary part of the programme (quite why the then Labour government linked the two remains for the cynics to discuss).

Supermarket or Sainsbury's Debate?

Well, the debate is underway...

If the argument was whether we needed another supermarket/mini-market in Mill Road then that would be fine with me. Personally, I don't think there is a huge demand for another one, and could have been persuaded to support the protestors.

However, it is not phrased that way at all. It is all about 'brand' names opening up in Mill Road.

A new Sainsbury's is therefore a 'bad thing' in the 1066 And All That terms of the protestors while, bizarrely, the existing national chains in the road, the Co-op and Londis, are in place and to be protected from future competition.

Folks, you've chosen the wrong argument.
