London Leads New York (and the World)

The 9th edition of Global Financial Centres Index shows London has continued to keep the top spot as the world’s leading financial centre.

Although six points behind – which is a whisker in these surveys – New York is in still in contention followed by Hong Kong and then Singapore.

Financial services employ a million people in the UK, with a further 900,000 in related professional services. Two thirds of the employees work outside London. The sector makes a trade surplus for our country of £40 billion… it is, as 1066 and All That would say, “A good thing”.
