A “Happy Thanksgiving” to all US citizens today (and those Brits who like Turkey dinners)
Despite the popular myth, it was a group of newly arrived English colonists in Virginia who held the first Thanksgiving... one year and 17 days before the bigoted, puritanical, kill-joy 'Pilgrim Fathers' landed in North America.
“Wee ordaine that the day of our ships arrivall at the place assigned for plantacon in the land of Virginia shall be yearly and perpetually keept holy as a day of Thanksgiving to Almighty God.”
4th December 1619
