David Howarth Won’t Fight the Next Election

The Lib Dem MP for Cambridge announced today that he is standing down.

Is this contagious? I announced my departure last month.

I hope Tony Juniper (Green) and Daniel Zeichner (Labour) will stay in place at least until December.

David is a conscientious man who works diligently on local affairs, for local people. I like him.

However, his party is a different matter. The next election will see either Gordon Brown or David Cameron in Downing Street. Cambridge having a Lib Dem MP in the Commons in 2010 would be about as useful as a well presented rubber plant on the green benches.

We need a new government, and only a Conservative vote can deliver one.
